Professor Olivier Delémont

Olivier Delémont is a Professor of Forensic Science at the École des Sciences Criminelles (School of Criminal Justice) at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. After completing his PhD in forensic science, he spent nearly a decade balancing his academic pursuits with a role as a senior forensic scientist at the Geneva police. His dual career path allowed him to combine research and teaching at the University of Lausanne with practical forensic casework.

His research covers a broad range of forensic areas, including crime scene investigation, fire and explosion investigation, chemical criminalistics, wastewater analysis, 3D printed firearms and forensic intelligence. Actively involved in casework, particularly in fire and explosion investigations, he frequently navigates the challenges and opportunities presented by digital transformation in forensic fieldwork. A strong advocate for a holistic approach to forensic science, he emphasizes the importance of integrating all forms of trace in forensic investigations.
