Dr John Power

Forensic Scientist from 1990 – 2020 based in Forensic Science Ireland (FSI). I was head of the controlled drugs team in the later part of my career in FSI, I also worked in the Toxicology and Chemistry areas of the laboratory.

I completed a PhD in 2017 on impurities found in illicit amphetamines and I remain a member of a research group based in the Dept. of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Trinity College Dublin. My main research interest is in the analysis of illicit substances. I have a special interest in amphetamines and cathinones.

During my employment in FSI, I have represented Ireland at the European Centre for the Monitoring of Drugs and Drug Addiction. I was also a committee member of the Drugs Working Group, European Network of Forensic Science Institutes.

I was appointed a College Lecturer in Forensic Science in 2020 and I am currently based at TU Dublin Tallaght campus.
