Dr Jan-Eric Grunwald
My educational background is biology. I have been a forensic scientist at the Forensic Science Institute of the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (“Bayerisches Landeskriminalamt”) in Germany since 2004. In my position, I serve as an examining and reporting scientist in the fields of textile and biological evidence, the latter including morphological hair examination, plant and animal traces as well as forensic entomology. I am also a technical assessor in these fields for the national German accreditation body (DAkkS) and other accreditation bodies, assessing the implementation of ISO 17025 and ISO 17020 in forensic laboratories in Germany and other European countries.
I have been serving as the chair of the ENFSI Textile and Hair Working Group (ETHG) since 2015. Within this group, I have been leading two consecutive EU-funded ENFSI projects on the development and implementation of an e-learning concept for forensic hair and fibre practitioners. Furthermore, I am a member of the European Association for Forensic Entomology and an affiliate member of the OSAC Trace Materials Subcommittee.
